TRAVELING WITH APPS - Ireland

Ireland – The Emerald Isle

After a fantastic trip to Ireland I just had to share with you some of the wonderful sights we saw there. The trip to Ireland was completely unplanned, a spur of the moment decision. We knew the country was a beautiful, we love Irish music and dancing and Irish whiskey and Guinness are the food of the Gods. But still, we didn't have an itinerary or a route planned at all. So when we landed at Dublin airport, the first thing we did was download some Ireland apps for the IPad. After that, it was all plain sailing because the apps are like having your own, personal tour guide with you 24/7, suggesting things to see and do, giving you directions, recommending hotels and restaurants and even more.

So, thanks to the Ireland apps, our vacation was a dream and we got to know a country and a people that are definitely worth a second visit.

Highlights of the trip

County Kerry is famous for its landscapes, rivers and lakes, colorful towns and villages and a very friendly local population. It's also home to some fantastic a circular tour route known as the Ring of Kerry that takes you through some of the more beautiful areas along the coast.

The Cliffs of Moher in County Clare are 8 km long cliff face rising up to 214 meters above the Atlantic. Standing on the cliff and watching the waves pounding against the cliffs far below is an awe inspiring experience.

The Burren or Boireann means 'a rocky place'. These fantastic limestone formations attract visitors from around the world, not to mention the many geologists who come to study these unique formations.

Bunratty Castle and Folk Park takes you back in time, and here those apps really came in useful, adding tons of information to what we saw and heard. Basically this is the recreation of a typical Irish village in medieval times. They even have medieval banquets in the evening.

The Giants Causeway is in Northern Ireland's but crossing the border was no problem. This intriguing basalt formation is a UNESCO World Heritage site and shouldn't be missed. The apps had a lot of information as to how the formations were formed millions of years ago.

These are just a few of the things we saw whilst in Ireland. I didn't tell you about the food, the pubs, the folksongs – there is so much more. We will be back!
