How touring apps revolutionized my French experience
France is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. Millions of people from all over the world go to France every year to explore French culture, history and cuisine and the country has a wonderful tourism infrastructure.
So, why bother using IPhone apps if you're travelling in France? The answer is really very simple – the convenience and the freedom they give you! I've been visiting France regularly for years. Before the IPhone and IPad, travelling meant bulky guide books, unwieldy maps and the use of a French phrase book. Since the IPhone apps appeared on the scene, touring has become so much easier.
Think about it, your IPhone or IPad is a computer that can do all the things you expect a computer to do. The French travel apps are travel programs that run on your mobile device! Putting the two together gives you the power of a computer, the storage capabilities of a computer wherever you go.
That's the beauty of French travel apps. They replace the guide book, the maps and atlases and the phrase books. They add pictures, movies, interactive and searchable maps, GPS and augmented reality technology, internet and a telephone all wrapped up is a tiny but powerful package.
Since I've been using French apps for my trips to France, I've discovered new things about places that I thought I knew all about. The GPS guided walking tours have taken me to places in Paris, for example, that I never would have found in a guide book. Augmented reality lets me photograph a location and the application tells me where I am, what's in the area and how to get there. Try doing that with a guide book!
Choosing your Apps
OK, now I know that there are hundreds of travel apps for France out there. Some are free, some you have to pay for (but they always cost a lot less than a printed guide book). How do you choose which apps are best for you?
If the apps are free, just download them and check. Some commercial apps have a \\"lite\\" version that you can get for free and that lets you use some of the functions available in the full version. The other option is to use the services of a site that reviews travel apps. These sites, like 10TravelApps.com, do the work for you.
Believe me; you only have to try a travel app once to see that I'm right!
